SENIOR DIRECTOR, MEDICAL AFFAIRS
Location: Remote/Hybrid (U.S.-based/East Coast Preferred, with occasional travel)

ROLE SUMMARY
The Senior Medical Director, Medical Affairs will serve as a key strategic leader within global medical affairs. You will guide medical and scientific strategy for the company. You will work with the medical and commercial teams on strategy and evidence plans. You will partner with commercial teams to ensure strategy benefits from strong medical insight. This role shapes scientific exchange and engagement, supports launch activities, and strengthens the company’s position in ophthalmology.
You will lead medical communications for a growing biotech in ophthalmology. You will shape strategy, support launch work, and work across medical, commercial, and external teams. You will take ownership in a small company setting where decisions move quickly and leaders stay close to the science and the field.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Partner with cross functional teams to develop a long term vision and medical strategy for the disease area.
- Provide therapeutic area subject matter expertise across internal teams and alliance partners.
- Support Strategic Program Teams and colleagues responsible for commercial strategy.
- Lead the design and execution of Medical Impact Plans with cross functional teams.
- Guide medical strategy for assigned therapeutic areas or products throughout the lifecycle.
- Lead medical initiatives that support product value and scientific positions.
- Build strong relationships with external stakeholders and support scientific exchange.
- Oversee the insight generation plan and input to overall medical strategy.
- Provide direction to Scientific Communications teams for evidence and education plans.
- Support evidence generation and scientific communication work in key markets.
- Maintain strong collaboration and stakeholder management across the company.
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS
- MD, MD PhD, or OD. Ophthalmology with retina experience strongly preferred.
- Ten to twelve years of ophthalmology industry experience in medical affairs.
- Strong leadership record with increasing responsibility.
- Experience developing and delivering medical strategy.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work across medical and commercial teams.
- Experience engaging with external experts and scientific communities.
TRAVEL
- Thirty to forty percent domestic and international travel.
- Occasional weekend work for congresses or meetings.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- Experience managing MSLs.
- Experience managing medical information and medical communications team members.
- Experience working at early stage biotech or during launch periods.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Base salary range $260,000-$315,000 commensurate with experience.
Total compensation includes a competitive benefits package, 401(k) match, and additional perks. Base pay reflects skills, experience, job level, and work location. We balance this with internal equity and current market data.
